Alternatives to Violence BASIC Workshop

November 6 @ 5:00 pm - November 8 @ 5:00 pm
$75

This beginning basic training will present conflict resolution skills through experiential learning exercises and practice with the goal of helping Direct Service providers and community members to think about and make choices to reduce conflicts in work and everyday settings. This is an intensive, three-day learning experience which teaches interpersonal conflict resolution skills through a series of step-by-step processes. These shared experiences in small groups and one-to-one interactions build a sense of community and trust through exercises focusing on 5 goals:

  • Build Community: We build community by sharing our thoughts about our experience here and by creating a safe non-judgmental space and by giving importance to what is shared by each person and encouraging participation by all.
  • Affirmation of ourselves and others: This means that we are going to listen to each other and treat each other with respect. We learn the art of enhancing the self-esteem of others. This is also a way to enhance our own self-esteem.
  • Communication Skills: We will work on improving our communication skills. Good communication is key to conflict resolution.
  • Cooperation: We will learn to work together in cooperation to reach a mutual goal.
