Join us for this hands-on educational exercise that demonstrates real challenges people face when leaving prison and reentering the Anchorage community.

What is a Reentry Simulation? Step into the shoes of someone returning to Anchorage after Criminal Justice Involvement in this powerful, hands-on reentry simulation. As you take on the role of a recently released individual, you’ll work to complete everyday tasks; like getting an ID, checking in with your Probation Officer, finding housing, and accessing treatment or support services. Along the way, you’ll encounter real-life barriers, rules, and limited resources that make reentry such a challenge.

Guided by volunteers at interactive “stations” representing Public Safety, Courts, Corrections, Housing, and Community Providers, you’ll gain a first-hand look at the complex systems people must navigate, and the dedicated workforce striving to support these efforts. This eye-opening event offers a unique chance to understand the reentry experience and the ripple effects it has on our community and local Criminal Justice systems.

What’s the purpose? The goal of this Simulation is to highlight complex barriers, limited resources and complicated systems reentrants encounter, while encouraging discussion about how reentry and the CJ workforce interacts. Experience these challenges, learn about resources in Anchorage, and take part in collaborative discussion!

Who should attend? Anyone working in or affected by Alaska’s Criminal Justice system—including reentry staff, community service providers, case managers, treatment providers, Tribal/Native organizations, peer support specialists, employers, transitional housing providers, corrections/court/public safety staff, community members, those with lived experience.

Advance registration is required. Space is limited.  Free for all volunteers and participants. Free parking!
