The Alaskan climate is changing rapidly, with Alaskans experiencing the effects first hand. Climate conditions are impacting behavioral health as people experience an increase in climate related emotional stress, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss.

As some villages have begun relocation forced by changing climate impacts, and many more are projected for relocation, we can learn from Alaska Native people whose ancestors have lived through and adapted to changing climates in the past. Behavioral health providers can learn from these stories to help promote resiliency among the people and communities they serve.
